Our reputation for world-class research has yielded major scientific breakthroughs such as Nobel-winning MRI techniques, drug discovery, food technologies and engineering solutions for future economic, social and cultural progress.

The University of Nottingham (UoN) was rated by the Times Higher Education Supplement as “University of the Year 2007” and placed Nottingham in the Top 1% of all universities worldwide in 2008.

In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, Nottingham was ranked in the Top 7 of all British universities, with 90% of all research at Nottingham classified of an ‘international standard’ and 60% as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent.

The School of Pharmacy received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Innovation in 2007 and topped the research assessment exercise in 2008 to become the leading UK department in its field. The Centre for Biomolecular Sciences (CBS) has world class research infrastructure which is used by the School of Pharmacy, to enable collaborations across other schools and departments.

Nottingham University Business School is the UK leader in corporate social responsibility and sustainability in management education and is globally ranked among the world’s top business schools. The Aspen Institute’s 2009-10 ‘Beyond Grey Pinstripes’ Global Top 100 ranks the School first in the UK and 23rd in the world for integrating ethical, social, and environmental issues into its MBA teaching and faculty research. The School’s vibrant research culture includes prominent experts in entrepreneurship and innovation as well as international leaders in logistics and supply chain management in one of the largest groups of operations management specialists in Europe. The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) confirmed the School’s position as an elite, research-led business school, rating 70% of research as either internationally excellent or world-leading.
