The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK)

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur is one of the premier institutions established by the Government of India and is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year. IIT Kanpur has grown into one of the top technological institutes in India and is emerging as an institution of excellence in education and research in consonance with the contemporary and future needs of India through meaningful education, original research of the highest standard and leadership in technological innovation for the industrial growth of the country. The IIT Kanpur campus has a number of research facilities including multidisciplinary initiative in biological sciences and bioengineering, nanoscience centre, Samtel centre for display technology, centre for laser technology, and the centre for environmental science and engineering. In addition, IIT Kanpur hosts 19 distinct departments – covering the engineering, science, management and humanities disciplines. The Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) was established in September 2001 with the aim of providing a multidisciplinary research and teaching program in modern biology and bioengineering. Research interests of the department include cell & molecular biology, genetics & developmental biology, structural & computational biology, bioinformatics, bioremediation, biomechanics, tissue engineering and bioprocess engineering. The department has developed extensive research facility and infrastructure to support the teaching and research activities.

Set up in 1974, the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) at IIT Kanpur was one of the first in the country to recognize the strength of combining the training of engineers with management. Today this Department is engaged in a diverse set of activities including teaching, industry consultancy, management development programs, academic research and public sector projects.
